ClickDiagnostics Summer 2010 Internship Notice

ClickDiagnostics is a “socially responsible startup” that empowers health-workers and junior medical professionals in developing countries with mobile phones that enable them to capture patient data in formats needed for remote diagnosis or health risk assessment. It has been founded by a group of graduate students and research fellows at Harvard University and MIT. With operations in several countries in Africa and South Asia and recognitions/awards from USAID Global Development Challenge, MIT 100K Business Competition and Legatum Fortune Technology Prize, ClickDiagnostics is rapidly emerging as one of the global leaders in the area of mobile telemedicine. We are in the process of developing a business model in which a health-worker can take out a micro-loan and provide various health services while generating a sustainable revenue. We are looking for interns who would be willing to spend the summer of 2009 in one of our operation sites (depending on our needs and the candidate’s interest) to help with implementation and business development. We would be particularly interested in candidates who are looking for long-term engagement with ClickDiagnostics and becoming a part of the “Click family”

Qualifications for Business Development Positions

Finished/Pursuing a Masters in Public Health, Public Policy/ Administration, International Development, or Business Administration.

We are particularly looking for candidates with interest and experience in public heath, grassroots organizations, microfinance and business development.

Qualifications for Technology Development Positions

Finished/pursuing a degree in Computer Science-related subjects and familiarity/work experience with a sub-set of the following technologies:

1. Mobile side: Java, J2ME, Python (for Nokia phones), Android, J2ME Polish
2. Server side: XML-RPC, Python, PHP, MySQL, Amazon EC2, Apache, SMTP/POP/IMAP
3. Client-server communication (XML, HTTP, SOAP, etc.)
4. General: Threading, background processes (daemons)
5. Web-side: Javascript, AJAX, HTML

Compensation

ClickDiagnostics will not be able to provide a salary but may be able to subsidize living expenses. It is advised that those who wish to apply for internship with ClickDiagnostics find other sources of financial support.
